Setting standard unpaid breaks in a roster

This article is designed for: User Type: Admins Access: Web Browser

Most businesses must allocate an unpaid break to employees based on shift length. For instance, if employees work a shift longer than 5 hours, they must take a 30-minute unpaid break. Rather than manually calculating and communicating unpaid break allowances for staff each time you roster, with RosterElf, you can set these rules on your account once and let RosterElf handle the rest.

1. Click the Settings tab, then select Roster from the dropdown menu.

2. Select the unpaid breaks tab

3. For each time range, select the unpaid break allowance you want to set. For instance, if you want 30-minute unpaid breaks for shifts of more than 5 hours, select the 30-minute option in the Over 5 hours section.

Starting from the shortest shift length, you need to update and work to the longest shift. You'll notice RosterElf auto-fills the longer shifts, allowing you to complete this section with only a few changes.

4. Once you are happy with the unpaid break rules you have set on your account, click the Save button on the bottom right of the screen.

Once complete, you will notice that shifts meeting your customised criteria will include unpaid breaks.
